Hurdles

Some projects just turn out to be huge hurdles that we can only push past and learn from. I’m sure we all experience many in the course of a life time, of a variety of types and reasons. My recent post of Sept. 13th, “Light…” refers to one such hurdle of mine that I’m glad to be over.

The process that I follow requires in this order, brainstorm, sketch, a lot of sketching, execute final art, in my case watercolor the most fun part, design product, product mock up and sometimes ads. Once I take an idea, the original thought, all the way from the drawing board on to the computer, both timely steps, I’ m done. It’s out of my system and I’m ready to move on to the next fun idea and fairly quickly. Unfortunately, my tedious process takes me far too long to always maintain the “fun” aspect of art licensing. I either need to get younger or faster at what I do. Any suggestions? IF my hands could only keep up with the creative ideas, my portfolio would be vast!

Finally, at last, I’m nearly at liberty to share the details of the extremely interesting program that occupied a good deal of my energy this past year. Aha, the fun part!

And the Winner…

…is Carin! Names went into the hat,

and the winning name was pulled at seven A.M. this morning.

So here is your Halloween booty Carin. I’ll be sending out today and should arrive in time for your favorite holiday. Thank you everyone for participating in my “Hair-raising Halloween” fabric giveaway. I really enjoyed hearing from you and discovering some of your sites and facebook pages. Eventually, I look forward to getting around to a personal thanks to each one of you. Stay tuned, I have many more illustrations, inspiration and FABRIC to give away in the future.

Artist Friends

I suppose among the nicest experiences that I’ve enjoyed since working in art licensing, has been the opportunity to meet other artists. Melissa Saylor was my first, professional artist friend. We met years ago while at the same agency and have remained friends since. Melissa’s work is as delightful as she is. You can stop by her new blog and view her work at:

Light…

…at the end of the tunnel! Finally, I am completing work on the last of my actual commitments. I am strongly sensing the need for a change. Not only creatively speaking but a total lifestyle “makeover!” I am ready for it too.

You may remember this photo I posted last February. I had barely started on a new project seen here on the drawing board. In the months to follow there would be many challenges (work related) ahead. A really great program was the result but I confess, there were times throughout the year that I considered throwing in the art licensing towel.

I’m not at liberty to reveal the new line just yet but look forward to sharing the interesting details surrounding this art group. Product will be delivering soon and I can then share images and availability. An artist’s personality may not always be suited for business, which is the conclusion that I’ve come to accept for myself.Ā  However, I’m grateful to have recently started working with the first member of a new team. Yeah, the Cavalry has arrived!

Artists In Atlanta

Fourth day home from the Atlanta Gift Show and I’m only now beginning, to feel rested up. There was much to see, many to meet and I tried to take in as much as time allowed. I think I over did it.

On the fun side, there were many artists gathered and gatherings of which, I took full advantage. I couldn’t seem to get enough of visiting with so many, like minded souls. And all in one place, loved it.

One artist who was gracious enough to allow me to snap away inside his studio, really stood out for me. Tom Haney and his wife Paula Joerling hosted an intimate creative gathering in their loft home/studio spaces. There we were met with yet more, artist types. What an interesting and enjoyable evening. Tom’s art was unbelievable and many of his pieces are mechanical. My photos do not do justice to the wonderful details of Tom’s workmanship. A pure treat to observe!

No Place Like Home

…and there’s no place like the Amercas Mart in Atlanta either, whew! A wonderful, wheeling & dealing, whirlwind trip. An Artsy extravaganza! I’ll post pictures featuring one artist’s studio when I catch my breath. Lot’s to organize, regroup and follow up on for me this week. Trying to sell art was physically taxing especially when you’re doing it among eighteen floors of showrooms. Oouuuch. And, of course the church building continues. Texas group of fifty, here all week.
