Of all the items that I’ve acquired over my lifetime, I would have to say I treasure my dad’s childrens books the most. I have only a few of his but they’re quite awesome, partly due to sentimental value. However, pouring over the pictures as a tiny tot, I believe these images instilled my desire to create some of my funny characters. The children’s book collection continues to grow and I am often inspired by these vintage illustrations.

I must apologize for not making it clear anywhere, just who’s writing this blog! Since I’ve been getting some comments directed to “Joy,” I thought I’d better identify myself for the record. The “J” in Wecker Frisch stands for Janet. But you can call me Joy, I don’t mind. I kind of like it.

These Janets are from the few pre-kindergarten scribblings that remain in a book, “The Tall Book of Fairy Tales,” 1947, that I have from childhood. I distinctly remember drawing in this treasured book right under my dad’s nose as he read the morning paper. I think I must have been learning to write my name. And the book, by the way was published a bit before my time!

Another of Michelangelo’s prophets is the second entry in my Lenten Sundays series from the book “The Art Of Prophecy.”

As creative individuals, we all understand being inspired by our surroundings. Today I am sharing some images of my studio that I keep displayed that help to inspire me. The art is from my “Woodsy Wanderers” and “Tiny Tailors” lines. Not only were these some of the most fun to do but also as I wandered through my surroundings one summer, I was truly inspired to do them. This art group also reminds me of a time that all of the elements, that perfect balance for a joyous existence was present. It was a blessed time.

As I am finishing up on a difficult job, I needed a reminder of a state of being that brings the joy to that “gladness of heart.”

To quote the famous duo, “A fine mess you’ve gotten us into!” Annie, our recent dilemmas inspired this post today. Need I say more? Understood, we get ourselves into, of course. Sill pressing on to see some light at the end of the tunnel on the current projects, nothing too serious. For a nostalgic look back at these clever comedians you can visit the official site for Laurel & Hardy.

Another work from Mary Sherwood Wright Jones for today’s TT. I was delighted when I saw this illustration and was eager to know who the artist was. I was not familiar with this Mary’s work and could find little information about her. This Home Arts cover from March, 1936 is one of two copies in my collection and the only two pieces I have seen of Ms Jone’s body of work. Note the cost, 10¢. I did find her granddaughter, also a wonderful artist – Le Zebre bleu: Anne Sherwood Pundyk. More about Anne Sherwood Pundyk. If anyone else has additional images or information on Mary Sherwood Wright Jones, I would love to hear from you.

So, as women, do we try to do it all, want it all and try to have it all? I confess, I do try to do it all, especially the fun creative projects, SO many I just want to do. Then again, there are those other things to fit in like, dirty dishes, laundry, etc. When time won’t allow, it’s difficult to let some of the fun and interesting ones go.
Art by Mary Sherwood Wright Jones. This is the lower portion of her image featured on October’s issue of “Home Arts” needlecraft magazine, 1938. Hey, how did that man get in there?

One of the commissioned projects that I am currently working to finish has been an interesting and informative one. The company is Fine Art Limited and is a publisher of fine art for commemorative events. During our first meeting I was presented with a copy of “The Art of Prophecy,” a book compiled by the company’s president and founder, Jack B. Scharr. The book presents the fulfillment of prophecy from old into the new testament and the chosen art works based on biblical figures and events. The union of the artwork with prophecy conveys a written and visual description of the fulfillment of God’s word. Each Sunday, through the Lenten season, I would like to share some of this beautiful book’s images which include some of the most prominent of the great masters work’s.

Hints about the new fabric line you ask? OK Charlene, I’ve been thinking about this and so, hint number one refers to the fabric line to be released at Spring Market. Inspiration for this line was taken from a passage of Scripture, familiarized to many, by a song made popular by The Byrds in the late 60’s. I have been scattering a few subtle hints about this line and the one I am working on now for Fall, throughout this blog since I began. Shhhhh!
If I don’t get into gear, it isn’t going to happen.

“Somebody has been sleeping in my bed!” cried he; and in a moment added, “and here she is!” Not me, two nights, awake at 1:30am. Perhaps I’m thinking about that snake? Or a deadline?
