Turtle Safety

Does anyone, besides me (& my friend Denise) help turtles cross the road, when in a safe area of course? And only the box turtles, not the snapping type. I suppose all the rain we’ve had lately, has our oldest, favorite reptiles on the move, have you noticed? Or perhaps it’s Spring fever? What ever the reason, I’ve moved a lot of turtles off the country roads recently. I really enjoy watching them….and drawing them too.

It’s Official

Sunday was a day of celebration and marked the official opening of the new church building. The variety of volunteer tradesmen were the guests of honor. Gratitude and goodies were in abundance. It was great to be a part and to help break in the new kitchen.

Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. ”Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.  John 4:35

Time Well Spent

The latest report on the new church building: We moved in one month ago. Since then two new committees were formed. I was asked to serve on one of them. The decorating committee! Somebody has to do it, right? Much time has been spent actively shopping, a lot of time shopping. Below – some of our finds.

The rest of the time? Spent making ourselves at home.

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday, commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem is a fitting day for our fist service in the new building. After much effort and many grueling hours of hard work, our humble, church home is ready for occupancy, even the nursery. God is good. Take a look at the journey: Friendship Friends on facebook.

Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. We bless you from the house of the Lord. Psalms 118:26

Gift Giving

In November we were involved in a fun “shoebox” ministry called Operation Christmas Child, a Samaritan’s Purse program. Here’s a little bit about it from the official site or you can click on the link above:

8 MILLION CHILDREN received the shoe boxes last year. OVER 130 COUNTRIES have received shoe boxes since 1993. ONE MISSION:To demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

When I first heard about this opportunity several years ago, I was immediately attracted to the idea of purchasing all of the items a child would like or need that would fit into a shoebox. The challenge alone intrigued me. I couldn’t wait to see just how much could you cram into one box for a child in need. I really like beginning the gift giving season with this small way of giving back. It feels good. This year we included contact information inside the shoe boxes, offering a chance to possibly hear back (help of an interpreter) from the recipient, who may be on the other side of the world!

You can decorate the boxes as much or as little as you like. Or not at all.

Here is the second batch of boxes, loaded up and on their way. Does anyone else participate in this Christmas shoe box ministry or maybe another one? Please write me about it or leave a comment.
