Time For A Giveaway!

Time for my first “Joy Studio” giveaway. I may need your assistance as well as your participation. I’m not entirely sure how to go about this so, here goes!

Quilting Treasures delivers premium quilting fabrics exclusively to Independent Fabric Retailers. It has been my pleasure to work with QT however, fabrics are beginning to stack up. My giveaway will include fat quarters from “Tiny Tailors,” “Animal Alphabet Games” and my new line, “An Appointed Time.”

Also, collage sheets featuring art by me, J. Wecker Frisch and…

… my Cuckoo Clock project that I created and crafted at the Mary Engelbreit Home Companion Workshops last month!

June marks six months of blogging for me, plus it’s my birthday month so, this will be a four week opportunity! Too long? OK, I’ll admit my other motive for extending this giveaway. June is going to be crazy, busy for me and I anticipate little or no time for blogging until at least July.

To keep it simple, just comment and/or introduce yourself for one entry. Post or blog about it (mention to me here) for a second chance. I look forward to hearing from you so, please join in the fun.

“An Appointed Time”

Gearing up for a giveaway!

I will be posting the details for our first ever “Joy Studio” blog giveaway offering upon my return so, please stay tuned.

Stewardship

Treasured Tuesday’s – Last week I attempted to straighten up some of the messy piles around the studio. One major issue, the many books and vintage “Art News” magazines retrieved from my dad’s work space last summer. Finally, the many volumes spanning from 1952 – 1962, are unpacked, organized and safely stored in my large, school salvaged, book case.

Cover – Donna Canonici da Ferrara, 1477 of the portrait-pair by Frcesco Cossa. The inscriptions read: UT SIT NOSTRA FORMA SUPERSTSES (In order that our image may survive.)

These issues are most likely rich in art history and imagery, however, I’m not sure whats to be done with them. For now, they will remain a part of my studio stuff as they were in my dad’s.

Late Arrival

After running errands all day yesterday, an early birthday present, to myself, arrived late last evening.

Ooooh, what could it be?

Kidding, I knew…

my first lap top!

My only other computer, about seven years old, is an IMac G4 and is filled up and slowing down. So, I took the plunge and ordered something I could sit in the easy chair with. Since the growing demand on an artist/designer to do much more computer generated, product mock-up work, I thought it was time to get comfy.

Admitting, I’m a little intimidated by the change. Good thing I have kids.

Charging….

Hey, kids? Jason, Kate, anybody? Eeeks!

It’s About Time

Launching at Spring Market, Minneapolis May 21 – from Quilting Treasures

It’s time to reveal a sneak peek at my new fabric line. I have not seen the finished product yet, only these first run strike offs. It seems like such a long time ago since I created this line but really, it’s only been a few months. This one was very dear to my heart. My research for the antique clocks came from the many clock books that belonged to my dad. For a brief time, he built reproduction, early American clocks. I spent some bitter sweet moments as I went through his books, finding notes and sketches as I worked out these images. Due to this line’s message, “An Appointed Time,” is a tribute to both our heavenly Father and my dad.

If you are planning to be at Quilt Market, please come by and say “Hello!” I’ll be in the Quilting Treasures booth at 1:00 on Friday. Receive your gift and details on my first blog give-away! Winner to be announced June fourth. Details will also be posted here as well.

Wonderfully Wild

Outside my studio windows, what I look forward to seeing most in the Spring are the wild Dogwood trees. Our predominately shaded property is blessed with many.

The Dogwood Legend

In Jesus’ time, the dogwood grew
To a stately size and a lovely hue.
‘Twas strong and firm it’s branches interwoven
For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.
Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
“Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so.
Slender and twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown
The blossom’s center wears a thorny crown.
All who see it will remember Me
Crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree.
Cherished and protected, this tree shall be
A reminder to all of my agony.”
