Afternoon Tea

Still trying to switch over to tea from my usual afternoon pot of coffee, in hopes of a better nights sleep. Not sure it’s working; 3:00am, again.

This cream & sugar bowl belonging to my husband’s grandmother and my friends enamelware tea pot were the perfect candidates for one of my earlier greeting card images. The original art is in full color and this result was my third attempt following two others that I was not satisfied with. I like the shape of this pot.

Sounds Like Spring

Standing outside this morning after some late night showers, I observed a heavy, low lying mist through the woods. Loaned out my camera so no pics. To accompany the mystical appearance that was dawning on this very Spring like day, was a chirping symphony. Then suddenly, my favorite sound, some honking geese flying overhead. I never tire of that sound.

The image is another of my oldies plucked from the art class archives as you can see from the date. Only an exercise from design class, not an actual cover candidate.

The Finish

I am so focused on the finish of an ongoing project that has been a most challenging one. I’m not at liberty to share details yet which is difficult. Finishing feels good and I’m so close yet, so far away.

Sixties Saturday

My mom managed a much more organized house and schedule than I have ever been able to maintain. Every Saturday my sister and I knew that the morning was set aside for cleaning, usually to the tune of KXOK on the radio. This morning I’m playing the “Sixties” station on satellite radio hoping it will put me in the mood for the ongoing effort of the studio clean up.

Reflecting

Looking through some very old sketches yesterday caused me to take a look back at an interesting exercise. I attended the community college for their art program in the early 90’s. During an entire semester we were given an assignment to do a self portrait, once a week, for the entire semester. It was a study that forced one to take a really good look in the mirror. Early on, it was difficult to recognize my likeness. This reflected image was as close as I could get and the final result. It’s difficult to judge if the outcome was more influenced by an artist’s skill or the way we see ourselves. I liked the sketch that I did one week before this however, my insensitive instructor expressed that it was not an accurate rendition but rather, one that made me appear better than I really did! It was an interesting and difficult assignment but one I recommend to try. If you are a willing model it’s a good way to sharpen your skills!

Ah Ha Moment

It’s true, the truth will set you free. That and talking to a new artist friend helped me to see some things in a different light yesterday. Feeling some relief this morning, ahhhhhhh. What was I thinking? Plus she sent me a pretty present! Thank you Sharyn.

Best Seat in the House

When there is absolutely not enough time to get everything done, then I need to take time, to sit down with a “good book.” The front porch is my favorite place, to slow things down and do exactly that.
